CULTIVATING COMMUNITY
NOURISHING SOULS
At Soulful Soil Farms, we build gardens and strengthen communities by teaching youth sustainable gardening and farming practices inspired by the legacy of Black farmers. Our garden-based programs provide therapy, resources, mentorship, and holistic practices to empower the next generation, while also combating food deserts by ensuring access to fresh, healthy food.
The vision of Soulful Soil Farms is to create thriving communities where sustainable gardens serve as vibrant hubs for education, empowerment, and healing. Through our garden-building initiatives and educational programs, we empower youth to become stewards of the land and leaders of change. Together, we create a legacy of resilience, equity, and harmony with nature, shaping a brighter future for us all.
40 Acres And A Mule.
In 1910, about 14 percent of U.S. farmers were black, owning more than 16 million acres. By 1997, Black farmers lost more than 90 percent of the 16 million acres they owned in 1910. Now only 1 in 100 farmers are black, owning fewer than 5 million acres in total. By one estimate, that's a loss of land value of about $326 billion. This is due to the great land robbery, economic forces, land-based oppression and local white political economic power.
